Adventure Games For PSP
Adventure games are a genre of video game that typically feature inventory, riddles and dialogue. They also often include puzzles that rely on the player’s character’s ability to combine objects.
These games are distinct from graphic adventures, which feature free-moving characters and a variety of commands, and text adventures, which require the user to enter complex text parser commands.
God of War: Chains of Olympus
If you’re a fan of the series and want to experience it on the go, God of War: Chains of Olympus is definitely worth a look. This prequel to the console games manages to pack in a lot of what makes them great, but with some tweaks for the PSP. Developed by Ready at Dawn, this game looks stunning, with high-quality cutscenes and over-the-top action. The game also features some nice new moves for Kratos, as well as an impressive range of weapons and effects.
The game’s only drawbacks are its length and the fact that it doesn’t have as much variety as the other entries in the franchise. But if you’re willing to put in the time, this is one of the best adventure games for psp available. There are some lengthy load times between areas, but you’ll get to see lots of Greek scenery and fight a ton of enemies. Plus, there are some fun challenges to unlock.
Daxter
Daxter is a handheld spinoff set during the two-year gap between Jak and Jak II that brings some fantastic new gameplay ideas to the table. It may not quite have the same level of polish as its granddaddy series, but it’s still an utterly brilliant game that makes full use of the PSP’s capabilities.
Much like the other games in the series, Daxter’s platform hopping is the core of the game. Thankfully, it’s also been given an overhaul that makes jumping around and traversing levels an absolute joy.
Besides the usual beachside, jungle-side and mountainous levels you can also take part in vehicle missions that see Daxter piloting various hovercraft throughout different parts of Haven City. Aside from these the other main gameplay feature are Daxter’s dream sequence mini-games that can be accessed by collecting Precursor Orbs and completing a set number of them. These all work in a similar way, asking you to time button presses against incoming enemies but each one is a cheeky homage to a different pop culture film.
Resident Evil: Revelations
The Resident Evil series has a reputation for over-the-top action and tongue-in-cheek writing, but Revelations brought back the core survival horror experience that made the franchise so successful. It’s also a solid fit for the PSP, as its graphics look better on the handheld than they do on consoles.
The game takes place between RE4 and 5, and revolves around BSAA agents Jill Valentine and portly European coworker Parker Luciani investigating the aftermath of a bioterror attack on a derelict, zombie-infested ocean liner called Queen Zenobia. The story shifts between Jill and Parker, with some flashbacks to Chris Redfield and new female BSAA agent Jessica Sherawat, who go in search of the two missing colleagues.
Revelations features some cool gameplay innovations, such as a gun-shaped Genesis scanner that reveals enemies and hidden items in a night vision-like view. The scanner helps keep players from over-exploring an area and can save them from getting stranded with little ammunition or health.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
One of the best adventure games for pspspspspsppspsppspsp, this 1998 release set a new standard for action-adventure titles. CNN and GameSpot both praised the game, with CNN stating that “it may well be the greatest videogame of all time.”
Ocarina introduced many features to the genre that have become commonplace, including item collection, world maps and unlockable areas. It also pushed the envelope by introducing players to a feedback loop where curiosity about the world around them revealed new secrets and challenges.
Link, the hero of Hyrule, sets out to save the kingdom from Ganondorf in this medieval-fantasy epic. It tells a story of good versus evil that is compelling and intriguing, with a cast of likable characters and a well-paced plot. It also includes a new play control system that makes it easier to use the sword and an assortment of other tools, such as a boomerang, a bow and arrow, and a mystical ocarina.
